An awareness seminar was organised to mark World Population Day at the Civil Hospital here.

Dr Jagdish Singh, acting Civil Surgeon, said it was the dire need of the hour to control the growing population. He said due to overpopulation, poverty, hunger, unemployment, illiteracy and inflation continued to rise. He said to make people aware of these problems, health workers would conduct seminars on population control and provide information on family planning.

An awareness seminar was also held at the Primary Health Centre, Chanarathal. SMO Raminder Kaur said the world population was going to hit the 8 billion mark in the current year.
