Awareness session to make Patiala cleaner & greener conducted

City-based civil society group 'Mera Patiala Mei Hee Sawaara' took another significant step today in its mission to make the Royal City of Gardens cleaner, greener and healthier.

In the past few months, the organisation has carried out 24 cleanliness drives across the city, collecting over 11,000 kg of plastic waste from Baradari Gardens, Nabha Road, Bhupindra Road, Physical College Road, Polo Grounds and several other localities. These drives made one thing clear — cleaning alone cannot solve the problem. True change begins with awareness, especially among young minds, who will shape Patiala’s future.

The team conducted an awareness session for students, its second major initiative. Ten volunteers from our organisation held an engaging 20-minute session featuring a quiz, an enthusiastic Q&A round, group activities and a short skit with characters Mr Messy (who litters) and Mr Sweepy (a responsible citizen). By the end, Mr Messy understands the damage caused by pollution and pledges to join the cleanliness mission.

The students’ response was heartening. Many admitted they sometimes litter but promised to change from today. Together, students, teachers, and volunteers took a pledge to keep Patiala clean and green and to strive for a Top-5 national ranking in cleanliness. Students were also encouraged to carry this message home to amplify the impact.

The group expressed gratitude to its cleanliness warriors -- Rajiv Chopra, Ajitpal Singh Gill, Varun, SC Makkar, Khushdeep, Navneet Chopra, Simrat, Dr Tarika, Capt Sukhjit Kaur Sanewal and founder Harinder Lamba. “If Indore and Lucknow can become India’s cleanest cities, so can Patiala. We invite schools, institutions, and citizens to join hands—because together, transformation becomes faster,” said Lamba.
