Public Works and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO today visited the Public Works Department (PWD) headquarters in Patiala today. During the visit, he convened a high-level review meeting with senior officials to assess the progress of development works being undertaken across the state under various government schemes, including major road infrastructure projects.

The minister reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and quality in public infrastructure. He said under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is ensuring that every rupee of the public’s hard-earned money is invested in delivering world-class infrastructure facilities. He instructed departmental officials to maintain stringent quality standards and made it clear that any negligence in execution would not be tolerated.

While reviewing development works being executed in coordination with other departments, the minister directed that all projects be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasised the need to streamline processes in cases where delays were caused by pending approvals or no-objection certificates from other departments, urging officials to expedite such clearances to avoid project slowdowns.

Highlighting the department’s legacy, Harbhajan Singh described the PWD as the backbone of Punjab’s development, with a proud history spanning nearly 150 years. He lauded the department’s pivotal role in building and maintaining the state's infrastructure and called upon officials to conduct regular site inspections and accelerate the implementation of new projects to further boost the pace of development.

During the visit, the minister also reviewed the functioning of various branches within the headquarters and held interactions with departmental staff and officers. He directed that all ongoing projects be completed on schedule and encouraged open communication to resolve on-ground challenges. He also engaged with nearly 300 employees, listening to their concerns and suggestions.
