The Department of Pulmonary Medicine, TB Hospital, Government Medical College, Patiala, is organising a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) event on February 23rd. The event would be preceded by a half-day workshop on Non-Invasive Ventilation on February 22nd, led by Dr GC Khilnani (ex-HOD AIIMS, New Delhi) and Dr A K Mandal (Fortis, Mohali).

This marks the fourth consecutive year the department has hosted this conference. This year’s theme is “Recent Developments in Pulmonary Medicine,” with expert faculty from leading institutions including AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, GMCH Chandigarh, New Delhi TB Centre, Metro Respiratory Centre Noida and Fortis Mohali.

Dr GC Khilnani would lead a session on the judicious use of antibiotics in the treatment of pneumonia, alongside panelists Dr S K Jindal, Dr Ashutosh N Aggarwal and Dr Deepak Aggarwal. A dedicated session on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which is most commonly seen in smokers, would take place on Sunday. Dr Deepak Talwar would discuss newer treatment options for patients with uncontrolled asthma.

Dr K K Chopra and Dr Ashwani Khanna would address the audience on new treatment regimens for tuberculosis as part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. The event would also cover important topics such as the role of vaccination in respiratory diseases, sleep-disordered breathing and diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD), presented by renowned pulmonologists.

Approximately 150 delegates from the state and neighbouring states are expected to attend the event. — TNS
