Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Government Stadium in Sirhind, where the event took place. For the fourth consecutive year, no minister was designated to unfurl the national flag. Instead, the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Sona Thind, took on the honour of hoisting the flag. She, along with SSP Ravjot Grewal, took salute from contingents of the Punjab Police, Home Guards and NCC cadets.
