Devotees continue kar seva at Dukhniwaran Sahib sarovar

Unrelenting despite the threat of Covid-19, devotees who started cleaning sarowar of historic Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib on Wednesday have continued their ‘sewa’ (community service).

The gurdwara management has kept hand sanitisers and soap for devotees, who dig with their hands in the muck, which has collected in the sarowar from over the years.

While schools, colleges and public transport have been ordered to shut, cleaning of the holy pond at the gurdwara continued on Thursday too. Devotees at the gurudwara said sarovar was being cleaned as per the religious sentiments of the ‘sangat’ (devotees). The sarovar is being cleaned after three decades.

When contacted, the DC said he had held a meeting with officials of the gurudwara management and requested them to use precautions in view of threats of the coronavirus spread.

Management of the gurdwara said after deliberations with administration officials it was concluded that devotees should ensure cleanliness in their surroundings.

Baba Inder Singh, who is overseeing the cleaning work, said, “We have discussed postponing of the remaining cleaning work of the sarovar with sangat. The decision over it will be taken tomorrow morning.” — TNS
