Farmers block highway, commuters bear brunt

On the call of SKM, farmers organisations blocked the traffic in the district on GT Road, Sirhind, National Highway at Mandi Gobindgarh, Roorkee village on Sirhind-Patiala Highway, Badali Ala Singh on Sirhind-Chandigarh at Khamano on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh Highway and at various link roads from 12 to 3 pm. The protest caused inconvenience to commuters. The motorists urged the protesters to hold dharnas at the residences of ministers instead of blocking the highways.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
