The farmers are protesting against the Central Government for allegedly backtracking on its promise to make minimum support price (MSP) a legal guarantee and ensure procurement of all crops.

Addressing the gathering, farmer leader Manjit Singh Nial said the Centre should enact a law fixing the accountability of government to cover all types of crops under MSP.

Farmers have blocked the road from Dukhniwaran Gurdwara to Thapar University by staging a sit-in. Women protesters are also part of the dharna.
