Flower show adds colour to Patiala heritage festival at Baradari Gardens

Adding a colourful chapter to the Patiala Heritage Festival, the flower show spread fragrance at Baradari Gardens here on Monday. Admirers of colourful and aromatic flowers, including city residents and those from out of town, flocked Baradari Gardens in large numbers.
Besides, the flower show was a platform for floriculturists from Punjab, who displayed their trade on the occasion.
Patiala Member of Parliament (MP) Preneet Kaur inaugurated the flower show. Addressing the gathering at the flower show, the MP said Baradari was not only a place for clean and healthy environment, but also a habitat of large number of old plants and trees.
The state government had been planting archaic varieties of trees and plants at the garden, she added. After the inauguration, the MP went to each counter to see flowers and appreciated floriculturists, who participated in the event.
Patiala Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit, Patiala SSP Mandeep Sidhu, Municipal Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur and other officials of the district administration were also present on the occasion. Musical bands of different schools performed at the flower show.
MP buys flowers
Member of Parliament (MP) Preneet Kaur also purchased flowers at the show for New Moti Bagh, her house. The MP said she was fond of flowers and plants.
1,026 flowers displayed
A competition was held in five categories, including cut flowers; flower ornaments; cacti and succulents pot plants; bonsai plants; and artistic display of plants, during the flower show. As many as 1,026 flowers were displayed during competition. The winners were given awards on the occasion.
Food festival
For the first time, a food festival was also organised at Baradari Gardens adding spice to the Patiala heritage. In all, 20 participants in 10 teams participated in the food festival. Preneet Kaur inaugurated the festival. Masterchef Ashish and Jimmikand judged the food festival.
