Locals fume over dilapidated roads, poor drainage in Fatehgarh Sahib villages

The dilapidated and broken roads connecting the villages with grain markets have left locals hassled, with many facing problems transporting their produce to the mandis. Potholes and the lack of a proper system to drain out sewer water have compounded their problems.

Several towns in the district are facing the problem, with senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Zila Parishad chairperson Baljit Singh Bhutta today visiting the Badali Ala Singh area of the district to assess the difficulties being faced by the people of the adjoining villages.

The local residents apprised him about the difficulty being faced due to the bad condition of the roads and the lack of a drainage system.

Addressing the media, Bhutta said the dilapidated and broken roads connecting markets and cities have also left commuters facing problems. “Farmers are facing great difficulty in taking their produce to the grain market as the pothole-ridden roads are unusable,” he said, adding that the condition of roads in Badali Ala Singh, Hansali, Bibipur, Baras-Timberpur, Cholti Kheri, Salempur-Rajindergarh, Sarai Banjara, Bhagrana, Rasulpur Chunni and Rai Majra were among some of the worst.

The former Zila Parishad chairperson urged the Mandi Board to push for the repair of roads for the convenience of farmers.

Besdies, the locals also highlighted the problem of sewer water accumulating on the roads and streets due to the lack of proper management of drainage in Badali Ala Singh.
