Man dies in accident, residents blame potholed road

The condition of roads in almost all towns of the district, including Sirhind, Mandi Gobindgarh, Khamano, Amloh and Bassi Pathana is deplorable and in urgent need of repair, but for the last two years no repair work has been undertaken. As a result, accidents have become commonoplace in the district’s towns.

Yuvraj Singh, a resident of Ghamandgarh village, lost his life as his motorcycle was hit by a jeep on Baba Namdev Road, one of the main roads in Bassi Pathana. The accident occurred as the motorcyclist was trying to avoid a pothole on the road and the jeep, coming from behind could not stop in time and hit him. The victim died on the spot, while a number of people who gathered around protested the precarious condition of the road.

The Senior Citizen Association of Bassi Pathana led by President ML Verma expressed concern over the worsening condition of the roads in the town, which has taken the toll on innocent lives. He said the important road that connected the the town had been crying for repair and maintenance for a long time but there was nobody to listen to the public outcry. He said that during rains the conditions become even worse, due to which the people of the city had to face great difficulties. He demanded immediate repair of the roads in the town.
