The body of a youth missing from his house since July 17 was recovered from Bhakra Canal near Passiana village in Patiala district.

The deceased was identified as Amanpreet Singh, a resident of Roorkee village.

Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh of Mullepur police station said in a statement given to the police, Mohinder Singh, the victim’s father, stated that his son used to work in a company at Rajpura. On July 17, he had gone for work on his scooter around 11 am but did not come back home.

The cop said a search was conducted and CCTV footage srutinised. The youth was seen going towards Charnarthal village on a scooter. The SI said that police found the victim’s scooter on the banks of the canal.

He said on July 21, the police got the information that Amandeep’s body was recovered by divers from a canal near Passiana.

On the statement of the deceased’s family members, action was taken under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The body was handed over to the victim’s kin after post-mortem at the Civil Hospital.
