Three days after the Global Christian Action Committee had erroneously made an effigy of Charan Kaur, mother of slain Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh, alias Sidhu Moosewala, during its protest in Jalandhar, some committee members today visited the singer’s residence at Moosa village here and apologised to Charan Kaur and her husband Balkaur Singh.

They clarified that it was a mistake and that the effigy had not been burnt.

Notably, Charan Kaur had sent a legal notice to the organisers for defaming her, asking them to seek an apology within 15 days or pay Rs 10 lakh as damages.

In a video message today, Balkaur Singh said the issue had been resolved after discussions with members of the Global Christian Action Committee. "I appeal to the fans of my son not to do anything provocative, the issue has been resolved now after a discussion," said Balkaur in his video.

Notably, the Global Christian Action Committee had on Wednesday staged a protest outside the District Administrative Complex in Jalandhar, mainly against two persons - Tejasvi Minhas, president of Punjab Bachao Morcha, and activist Bhana Sidhu.

The duo had submitted a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate last week, alleging that the Christian organisation was indulging in religious conversions and receiving funds from abroad through 'hawala' transactions.

During the protest, the protesters from Christian community had wrongly made three effigies, including that of Charan Kaur, who was completely unrelated to the issue.

The incident triggered a huge backlash from Sidhu Moosewala’s fans, who demanded action against the organisers.
