Nine addicts admitted to rehab centres in Fatehgarh Sahib

The district police’s outreach programme launched on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ravjot Grewal has yielded positive results in helping eradicate drug abuse. In a boost, Mandi Gobindgarh police had nine addicts, who were caught by the police with small quantity of drugs admitted to correction facilities.

Sharing further details, Superintendent of Police (SP, Investigation) Rakesh Yadav said police officials have been directed to hold public meetings, emphasise on the rehabilitation of drug addicts if they or their family members approach them.

The SP further said the police are also carefully scrutinising the cases pending in court against addicts caught with small quantities of drugs. If the addict files an affidavit in the court to give up drugs, they are admitted to de-addiction centres after court orders.

On receiving the written information from psychiatrists, the police present addicts in court and the case is terminated.

“Besides, special committees have been formed in villages and urban wards to keep the younger generation away from drugs,” the SP said, adding, “The state government and the police are making efforts to curb drugs and it is the need of the hour for parents and every person of the society to do their bit.”
