Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research and Elections Dr Balbir Singh urged hospitals in the state to adopt information technology for patient record-keeping during a state-level function of the Department of Health and Family Welfare’s Kayakalp programme at the Government Medical College in the city.

At the event, the minister also honoured the staff of District Hospital Barnala, District Hospital Nawanshahr, Mata Kushalya Hospital Patiala, and others for their outstanding performance.

Dr Balbir Singh explained that the Kayakalp programme evaluates hospital performance based on parameters such as patient treatment, hospital cleanliness, waste management, infection control, and staff behaviour towards patients. He said the programme’s aim was to recognise and honour staff members who perform well.

He said 246 health institutions of the state had performed very well in the revitalisation assessment, in which 162 primary and 84 secondary-level health services had scored more than 70 percent points.

He announced that government hospitals would soon adopt online patient record-keeping, as was implemented in Aam Aadmi clinics. The minister also urged people to take precautionary measures in light of the increase in Covid-19 cases. He said mock drills had been conducted by the Health Department, and individuals with cough, cold, or any other illnesses must wear masks.

The minister informed the audience that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had instructed the purchase of vaccines from the Centre. The Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Vivek Pratap Singh and other officials also attended the event.
