Over 15,000 cases settled at Lok Adalat in Panchkula
A total of 18,118 cases were taken up at the National Lok Adalat organised at the District Courts on Saturday, of which 15,582 were settled. The total settled amount stood at Rs 1,61,80,482. The initiative, organised under the District Legal Services Authority, aimed at providing an alternative dispute resolution mechanism to ensure quicker justice through mutual settlements.
Among the cases taken up, 1,504 bank recovery cases were heard, with 1,495 settled, leading to a total settlement amount of Rs 39,65,385.
A total of 636 traffic challans were taken up, out of which 360 were settled, amounting to Rs 9,33,180.
In criminal compoundable cases, 192 were taken up, with 100 settled. Matrimonial disputes accounted for 72 cases, while cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act saw 375 cases taken up, with 178 settled, leading to a settlement amount of Rs 9,50,000. Other civil cases included 52 matters, with 24 settled, contributing Rs 16 lakh to the total settlement amount. Labour dispute cases saw complete disposal of 1,496 cases.
The cases taken up included civil disputes, criminal compoundable matters, bank recovery cases, matrimonial issues, motor accident claims, and other disputes.
13,719 cleared in Mohali
A total of 18,096 pre-litigative and pending Criminal Compoundable Offences, NI Act cases under Section-138, Bank Recovery Cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour disputes, Land Acquisition cases, Electricity and Water Bills, Service matters relating to pay and allowances and Retiral benefits, Revenue Cases and other Civil Cases were taken up.
Of the total cases, 13,719 cases were disposed of by virtue of compromise and awards of an amount of Rs 1,96,19,56,727 were passed.
