Patiala Police nab gangster Gurpreet Singh after encounter

Patiala Police today claimed to have nabbed Gurpreet Singh Babbu following an encounter, in which the accused sustained a bullet injury in his leg. Police have also recovered some illegal weapons from the accused.

Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said the accused was rounded up near Sirhind Road and already facing five FIRs of dacoity and theft using firearms. “Recently he was involved in a bank robbery by snatching a weapon from the security guard of the bank,” said the SSP.

SSP Varun Sharma said that following secret information regarding his movement on Sirhind Road, Patiala, the accused was held with a .30 bore American-made pistol in the form of a parcel from his America-based handler Karan.

“There was an input that he might commit a major crime or target killing by using this weapon. During the operation, he blatantly opened fire at the police and shot three rounds from his illegal pistol; one round hit the police vehicle,” said the SSP.
