Patiala school gets state’s first community dry leaf composter

In a significant step towards establishing sustainable environmental conservation practices in place, Punjab’s first Community Dry Leaf Composter (DLC) was inaugurated today at Meritorious School, Punjabi University Patiala, under Project PRITHVI, the environment conservation initiative of Patiala Foundation.

The installation ceremony was attended by Anindita Mitra, IAS, Administrative Secretary, School Education, Government of Punjab, as the Chief Guest, together with the Special Invitees, Dr Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala, Preeti Yadav,IAS, Deputy Commissioner Patiala and Paramvir Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, along with a host of dignitaries.

Notably, it is the state’s first Community DLC set up within a school campus. Patiala Foundation will now work with the school to establish an Eco-Conscious Society of students who will be actively sensitized and trained in environment conservation, and sustainable living.
