Portraits of 20 Punjabi intellectuals adorn Punjab Bhawan walls in Delhi

The Punjab Language Department has installed portraits of 20 eminent Punjabi intellectuals at Punjab Bhawan, New Delhi.

Jaswant Singh Zafar, director of the department, said adorning Punjab Bhawan with portraits of renowned Punjabi writers and thinkers not only honoured their legacy but also strengthened the global reach of Punjabi literature and culture.

Among those whose portraits have been installed at the Bhawan are Prof Puran Singh, Nand Lal Noorpuri, Sant Ram Udasi, Balwant Gargi, Gurmukh Singh Musafir, Saadat Hasan Manto, Norah Richards, Gurbaksh Singh Preetladi, Babu Rajab Ali, Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha, Davinder Satyarthi, Dhani Ram Chatrik, Dr Jagtar, Giani Hira Singh Dard, Gurdial Singh, Gursharan Singh and Pandit Shraddha Ram Phillauri.

Zafar assured Bhawan’s Deputy Resident Commissioner Asita Sharma that the department aimed at installing portraits of 100 distinguished Punjabi intellectuals by the end of the year.

Alok Chawla, Assistant Director, Language Department, Ajitpal Singh, District Language Officer, Moga, Bhupinderpal Singh, superintendent, and Santokh Singh Sukhi, Research Officer were present at the event.
