Addressing a press conference, Kaur said in the past few days, seven homes belonging to innocent Scheduled Caste families were demolished, despite having no connection with any NDPS Act violations or drug-related cases.

The former MP informed that 15 affected residents approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which took serious note of the issue and ordered a stay on further demolition till November 7. She added that a detailed representation has also been submitted to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (India).

Condemning the incident, the former MP said, “Action against drug traffickers is justified, but harassing and evicting poor and innocent families in the name of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign is absolutely wrong.”

Kaur also criticised the approach of the local administration, saying, “If encroachments were to be cleared, proper rehabilitation and alternate accommodation should have been provided to the affected families. This kind of high-handedness reflects insensitivity towards the poor.”

“We fully support strict action against drug peddlers, but we stand with the innocent families whose homes are being unfairly demolished. The government must handle such matters with fairness, compassion, and humanity,” she added.

The press conference was also attended by BJP District President (Patiala Urban) Vijay Kumar Kuka, District Youth Morcha President Nikhil Kumar Kaka, Tejinder Teji, and other senior leaders.
