The protest by assistant professors serving on contract at Punjabi University, which had been going on for the past 72 days, has been suspended today following an agreement with university authorities that the matter of salary revision would be put before the syndicate.

Taranjit Kaur, President of the Punjabi University Contract Teachers Association, an agreement has been reached between the Punjabi University administration and the contract assistant professors. The agreement is based on the condition that the proposal regarding the Seventh Pay Commission will be brought before the syndicate, and it would be compassionately addressed. The assistant professors, who have been serving on a contractual basis for the last 10 to 16 years in Punjabi University’s main campus, constituent colleges, neighborhood campuses, and regional centers, began their protest on April 22. —TNS
