Employees and students belonging to the scheduled caste (SC) categories at Punjabi University held a protest march at the campus demanding reservation in the posts of 178 law officers. They burnt an effigy of the state government.

The protesters said the state government had not provided reservation in hiring of 178 law officers. Dr Jatinder Singh Mattu said, “It is for the first time that the state has violated the Punjab Scheduled Caste and Backward Classes Reservation in Services Act, 2006.”

The protesters said they would intensify their protest in their demands were not met.
