Punjab’s Rajpura industrial smart city among 12 approved by Cabinet

India to soon have a grand necklace of industrial smart cities on the backbone of golden quadrilateral with the union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approving 12 world-class greenfield industrial smart cities under National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.

Punjab’s Rajpura near Chandigarh has been selected as one of the centres for the 12 smart cities to come up at Rs 28,602 crore.

The project will span 10 states and has been strategically planned across six industrial corridors.

In Rajpura, the industrial city cost of Rs 1,367 crore has been approved with an employment potential of over 64,000.

The investment potential of the Rajpura industrial smart city is Rs 7,500 crore.

Overall, these industrial areas will be located in Khurpia in Uttrakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh.

These industrial nodes will act as catalysts for achieving $2 trillion in exports by 2030, reflecting the government’s vision of a self-reliant and globally competitive India.
