Vice Chancellor Jagdeep Singh has approved the appointment of Rajwant Kaur Panjabi, who will assume charge as the new Head of the Department of Punjabi at Punjabi University, Patiala, on Monday.

She holds degrees in MA Punjabi, Religious Studies, along with a certificate course in Urdu and a BA Additional in Persian. She completed her PhD on the topic ‘Punjab De Viah Same de Lokgeetan Vich Bhav Sanchar’.

A state awardee, Rajwant Kaur Panjabi began her service journey at Punjabi University, Patiala, as a daily-wages clerk in December 1988. She was selected as a steno typist in 1989. While performing her duties in various departments, she continued to pursue her academic studies. She served as Assistant Professor in the Department of The Advanced Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi Languages, Literature and Culture. She later joined the Department of Punjabi as an Assistant Professor in 2011.

She has authored 21 books on various aspects of Punjabi language, literature and culture. One of her research works, ‘Sehra te Sikhia Sanklan te Mulankan’, was selected for the first prize by the Department of Languages, Punjab, Patiala, in 2010. Her books have been published by Punjabi University Patiala, the National Book Trust (NBT), New Delhi and other prominent publishing institutions.

At present, she is also engaged in several ongoing projects with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; the Department of Languages, Punjab, Patiala, and other academic institutions.
