The condition of the roads in Fatehgarh Sahib’s rural and urban areas continues to irk commuters despite the patch work before the Shaheedi Sabha. Most of the repairs came off within a few days, leaving the authorities and the ruling party leaders red-faced.

The situation has come to such a pass that the Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurwinder Singh Dhillon, who is also the chairperson of the Sirhind Market Committee, took the initiative along with party volunteers to fill the potholes on Bhatti Road Sirhind town.

While talking to The Tribune, Dhillon said that they were fed up with the daily complaints from people regarding the poor condition of roads and indifference of the PWD officials, thus taking the work in their own hands.

Lashing out at the officials, the leader accused them of misusing the government-released funds for the repair work before Shaheedi Sabha by using substandard material. He said he would bring the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister and urge him to release adequate funds for the repair work so that the government’s image does not suffer.

“Providing facilities to the people is the priority of our government,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that even the Deputy Commissioner had expressed concern over the poor patch work on the roads leading to several gurdwaras, initiated before the Shaheedi Sabha at the cost of approximately Rs 1 crore.

Another Senior AAP leader, Deepak Batish, had also earlier forwarded a complaint to the CM Office and the Vigilance.
