Fatehgarh Sahib, August 30

To make Fatehgarh Sahib free from stubble burning, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has given a subsidy of more than Rs 15 crore under various schemes for stubble management, said DC Parneet Shergill.

During a meeting of officials held on strategy to prevent the incidents of stubble burning, she said the district nodal officers had been assigned villages to monitor and would be held responsible, if any case of stubble burning was reported in their areas.

Shergill said paddy had been sown on 87,400 hectares in the district this year, which is likely to produce 5.5 lakh tonnes of straw.
