Speaking on the occasion, Sandhwan emphasised that the state government intends to observe these historic occasions on a grand scale — while upholding religious sentiments, cultural values and modern outreach methods. He said celebrations would be rooted in teachings of the Gurus and carried out with full devotion, respect and public participation.
Speaker said he was personally engaging with the sangat, historians, scholars and committees to gather suggestions so that the events were organised in line with the sentiments of the people and the spiritual spirit of Punjab.
Sandhwan said, “The martyrdom and legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is not just a message of sacrifice for Kashmiri Pundits, but also a symbol of human rights and universal brotherhood for the entire world. Similarly, the heritage of Sri Amritsar Sahib holds immense significance that must be highlighted globally.”
He expressed gratitude to Vice Chancellor Dr Jagdeep Singh and the university’s expert committee — comprising Prof Paramveer Singh, Dr Sukhwinder Singh and Dr Sandeep Kaur — for their valuable suggestions and research-based insights.
Welcoming the proposals presented during the meeting, the Speaker lauded Punjabi University for its sincere efforts in contributing to the planning process. He assured that suggestions would be shared with the Punjab Government and efforts would be made to implement them effectively.
Dr Jagdeep Singh affirmed that Punjabi University was fully committed to supporting the government’s vision. He informed that a dedicated committee had been formed within the university and proposals were sought from all departments. Instructions were also issued to constituent colleges to design programmes related to the commemorations. He assured that the university would maintain a close coordination with various government departments and contribute in every possible way.
