Ahead of the state-level Republic Day celebrations to be held in Patiala, the police have tightened security arrangements and regular combing operations are being carried out in the district.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit will unfurl the national flag and take salute from the march-past in the event.

The police have beefed up security ahead of the January 26 celebratins, special nakas and search operations are being carried out in some parts of the district.

According to SSP Varun Sharma, special combing operations are being conducted in some parts of the city and vigil in certain locations around the venue such as educational institutions, railway stations, bus stops, religious places and busy markets, among other places has been stepped up by the police, he said.

Meanwhile, SP (City) Sarfraz Alam has been holding regular nakas across the city. Special night dominance exercise is being carried out in various parts of the city to keep a check on the movement of anti-social elements.

The police have started a special drive to check vehicles and conduct raids at all possible hideouts of suspects in the city.
