Rich tributes were paid to Shaheed Udham Singh on his martyrdom day at the Rauza Sharif memorial here today. People from various walks of life, led by Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhvir Singh Rai, Bassi Pathana MLA Rupinder Singh Happy, and Deputy Commissioner Parneet Shergill, paid their obeisance and observed a two-minute silence.

Addressing the gathering, Parneet Shergill said all those, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation, are always remembered and become immortal and source of inspiration for the coming generations. The communities, which forget and don’t respect their martyrs, cannot make any progress and their future is not safe.

MLA Fatehgarh Sahib said we should take a pledge on this day to wage a war against social evils like drug abuse, female foeticide, dowry, corruption, adulteration and pollution, so that we may construct a healthy society and nation which our martyrs dreamt and it would be true tribute to him.

The MLA urged the youths to take inspiration from the great martyrs and should dedicate themselves selflessly for the cause of society and nation. He said, “We all are enjoying independence due to the sacrifices of these martyrs, who laid down their lives for the nation.”

On the occasion, the DC flagged off a cycle rally which concluded at Udham Singh’s memorial in Roza Sharif. ADC Anupreet Johal, SDM Harpreet Singh and Khalifa Syed Mohammad Sadiq Raza were also present.
