Unions oppose sale of PSPCL land, assets

All unions associated with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have decided to launch a protest against the sale of power sector land and assets, hurdles being created in the process of 2x800 MW units in Ropar, four new labour codes implemented by the Central government and the provisions of the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. They urged the government to withdraw these.

Ajay Pal Singh Atwal, general secretary, said on Friday, a joint meeting of various organisations took place to deliberate upon the issues being faced by the sector.

It was stated that the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 would adversely affect public ownership, consumer interests and the long-term stability. They expressed deep concern that the sale of valuable PSPCL/PSTCL land would severely compromise the expansion of the critical infrastructure.

They also emphasised that the Bill undermined the federal structure, weakened state utilities and threatened the affordability and reliability of electricity for the public and agricultural sector.

The unions condemned the attempts to sabotage state sector 2x800 MW units in Ropar as these super critical units would ensure reliable power availability to the state.
