Annual sports event of the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), “URJA 2024”, evoked an overwhelming response from everyone. The tournament concluded with pomp and show on the Thapar campus today. Participants from separate universities and institutions joined in the customary contingent march past carrying their flags. URJA, signifying spirit and determination, has been the hallmark of Thapar’s emphasis on a holistic development of students. Cricketer Manpreet Gony, who graced the event as chief guest, unfurled the Thapar flag. This was followed by the lighting of the URJA torch and a spectacular flash mob performance by artistes of the institute.

Sporting activities included football, badminton, volleyball and cricket. The three-day event was a perfect blend of athleticism, camaraderie and sportsmanship. After an exhilarating Day 1, Day 2 was an eclectic symphony of guitar riffs and soulful melodies by the gifted Mayank Maurya. Day 3 saw the finale of various meets, which was predominantly dominated by the hosts.

Chitkara University won in cricket. In volleyball, BMU displayed a formidable performance. But, the Thapar’s team staged a remarkable comeback to clinch a 3-2 victory.

The mega sporting carnival culminated with a scintillating dance and music event titled “CINEYOUTH”.

The force behind URJA and various other such mega events at the institute has been the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr Inderveer Channa, who has been playing a sterling role in various student-related activities for the past few years.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Channa said, “The integration of academic excellence with co-curricular activities is the hallmark of the TIET. The most splendid facet at Thapar is the perfect integration of various student societies and clubs with academics.”
