Vigilance Bureau arrests Asst Jail Superintendent for accepting bribe of Rs 10,000

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the Jail Superintendent has been arrested following an enquiry of a complaint lodged at the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
He further added that a complainant from Patran town in district Patiala has alleged that the accused was allegedly harassing her husband who was lodged at Central Jail, Nabha, and demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe. Afterwards, the complainant had forwarded Rs 10,000 as a bribe money via google pay.
The spokesperson informed that after an enquiry, the allegations levelled in the complaint were found to be true and a corruption case was registered against the Assistant Jail Superintendent at VB police station, Patiala.
“The accused was absconding and his bail application was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana high court. After his surrender in the court, he was sent to one-day police remand by the VB,” said an official.
Further investigation into this case was ongoing, he said.
