Webinar dwells on challenges faced by women in work life

The event aimed to explore the current status of women, challenges they face in professional spaces

The Student Welfare Department, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab, and Chandigarh state centre, organised a webinar titled “Work, life, women: Finding balance” on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The webinar was held under the leadership of Anindita Mitra, Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU.

The event aimed to explore the current status of women, challenges they face in professional spaces and necessary steps to address these issues. Madanjit Kaur Sahota, former member, Consumer Redressal Forum (I), UT, Chandigarh; Juvenile Justice Board, Chandigarh, and Child Welfare Committee, Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion. She exhorted participants to learn lessons from Gurbani to overcome challenges of work and life.

Manpreet Sahota, School of English and Liberal Studies, Seneca College, Toronto, Canada, shared experiential realities related significant strides required by women to reclaim autonomy and “room of one’s own”. Prof (Dr) TS Kamal, former vice-president, Institution of Engineers, elaborated on mental health challenges women face due to demanding work environment.
