Baba Farid Centre for Sufi Studies, Punjabi University, organised a webinar dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur on the theme of “Sufism and Punjab” today.
Keynote speaker on the occasion, Prof Nashir Naqvi, founder director, Sufi Centre and former head, Department of Urdu, Punjabi University, described the relationship of ‘Sufis’ with Punjab.
He said, “Sufis, Darveshs, Saints and Fakirs are elders, who convey the message of direct connection with God to the common man. The main function of a Sufi is to protect, love, impart knowledge and to connect with God.” The Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Arvind, said Baba Farid loved culture of Punjab. Before Farid ji knowledge was transformed in Persian or Sanskrit, but he composed his ‘kalaam’ in Punjabi, he added.—TNS
