As per a media bulletin, Ludhiana district recorded five fresh cases, followed by Ropar two cases, and Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur had one case each.

In the last one week, 398 cases have been reported in the state. For almost a month, the situation in the state looked under control till April 26. However, after the arrival of over 4,000 pilgrims from Hazoor Sahib in Nanded, the situation started changing.

Before April 26, the total number of cases in the state was just around 300. However, in less than three weeks, it swelled more than six times.

Now again the situation seems to be coming under control. As for the past week, the cases have been continuously declining.

In Ludhiana, five more workers of a leading tyre company tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the tally to 141 in the district. The report of these patients came from DMCH early today.

Earlier, the manager of the firm, his wife, son and two colleagues had tested positive and now five more workers of the same company have tested positive. In this “chain infection”, one source infected almost 10 more persons.

In Ropar, a 22-year-old youth, who reached Punjab from Kanpur on foot, also tested positive. A few days ago, the patient was brought to the flu corner by his father at Civil Hospital. With this, the total number of active Covid cases has touched 55 in the district.

Ropar Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri said the youth employed at Kanpur first reached Ludhiana and then came to his home at Ucha Khera Mohalla in Ropar. A 60-year-old man, who was brought from Majnu Ka Tilla in Delhi, also tested positive.

Besides, another case was reported in Jalandhar today, taking the tally in the district to 198. The latest case was a 66-year-old from Basti Shiekh. In Kapurthala, a 14-year-old returnee from Hazoor Sahib, tested positive. Staying on the PTU campus, the patient hails from Narangpur village in Bholath. Having arrived a few days ago, the patient had not gone home as yet as he was under quarantine.

As per the Health Department, so far samples of 46,026 suspected cases were sent for testing. Of these, 40,637 samples were found negative and reports of 3,465 is still awaited.
