To check bogus billing and passers, who illegally transport raw material and finished iron products from Mandi Gobindgarh, Krishan Kumar, Financial Commissioner, Taxation, swung into action and deputed 12 ETOs to conduct round-the-clock inspection to detect evasion of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Sources said the move had started generating substantial increase in the collection of GST.

Sources added that 10,000 tonnes of iron scrap and raw material arrived at Mandi Gobindgarh and almost the same amount of finished goods were shipped to different parts of the country.

Thus, due to alleged nexus between officials, politicians and transporters, hundreds of crores of losses are incurred daily by the Taxation Department.

The 12 ETO would conduct checking at Floating Restaurant, Sirhind, Amloh Chowk in Mandi Gobindgarh, near Mahadev Alloy in Mandi Gobindgarh, GT Road Khanna near Bhadla and GT Road Amloh Chowk. The Financial Commissioner has directed all officials to give duty for 12 hours each.
