Truck attempting to smuggle liquor worth Rs 1.25 cr intercepted, 1 arrested
A truck that was trying to smuggle illegal liquor worth Rs 1.25 crore from Punjab to Gujarat has been intercepted by Rajasthan Police in Sriganganagar. The truck driver has been arrested and 1,425 boxes of English liquor and beer have been recovered. This is the second instance in three days where a truck carrying illegal liquor from Punjab to Gujarat has been captured.
SP Gaurav Yadav said that the teams of District Special Squad (DST) and Sadar police station took joint action on Suratgarh-Anupgarh State Highway and managed to intercept the truck, which was being driven by Balwant Singh (55), a resident of Barmer. English liquor and beer cartons were found hidden under the sacks of rice husks.
According to sources, liquor cartons were loaded in Punjab and the vehicle was on its way to Gujarat via Bharatmala Project route.
In a separate incident, earlier on Sunday, another truck from Punjab that was going to Gujarat was intercepted. The truck was loaded with 691 boxes of illegal English liquor and beer. The value of which was said to be Rs 62 lakh. Truck driver Jitendra Singh alias Raman (32), resident of Bhagtana in Gurdaspur, and conductor Sher Singh alias Dharminder Singh (30) of Amritsar were arrested.
