In response, the government has stepped up efforts to combat the mosquito-borne disease, leading a door-to-door awareness and inspection campaign in Patiala.

The campaign, “Har Shukarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar”, aims at mobilising people in identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.

On Friday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh visited several neighbourhoods in Patiala, including Ranjit Nagar and Dashmesh Nagar. During the inspections, mosquito larvae were discovered in water-filled bowls placed for birds and stray animals.

The minister personally visited houses and surrounding areas “Vacant plots and car washing centres are emerging as new hotspots for mosquito breeding,” he said. “While fumigation helps, the real weapon against dengue is public awareness and active participation,” he added.
