1984 riots: Sirsa seeks apology from Rahul

BJP national secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Friday sought an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Sirsa, who is also a legislator from Delhi's Rajouri Garden, wrote an open letter to Gandhi and accused his party of sheltering Sajjan Kumar, a former Congress MP held guilty in a double-murder case by a Delhi court on Wednesday

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on February 18.

Posting the letter on social media, he said, "Sajjan Kumar's conviction proves that the Congress had sheltered 1984 genocide culprits for decades. Rahul Gandhi ji must publicly apologise to the Sikhs and the nation," the BJP leader said.

Sirsa said the conviction served as a painful reminder of one of India's darkest chapters as the victims and their families had been fighting tirelessly for justice for over four decades. Sirsa asked Gandhi to take moral responsibility of the violence.
