Covid-19 cases continued to spike unabated with 2,424 fresh cases and 70 deaths today, which took the state’s total count to 82,113. The number of casualties has reached 2,424. At present, 20,690 cases are active in the state while 58,999 have recovered.

In district wise break-up of fresh cases, SAS Nagar reported maximum 408 cases, followed by Patiala 387, Ludhiana 307, Amritsar 281, Jalandhar 261, Ropar 100, Pathankot 98, Bathinda 89 and Hoshiarpur88 cases.

Ferozepur topped the toll chart with 14 deaths, followed by Ludhiana (11), Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Patiala (six each), Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Kapurthala (five each), Fatehgarh Sahib (three), SAS Nagar and Sangrur (two each) while Bathinda, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar and SBS Nagar (one each).

MC ex-chief succumbs

Bathinda:Municipal Council former president Bhupinder Singh Bhullar (65) died due to Covid-19 at a private hospital here on Monday. He was critical for the last six days and was undergoing treatment at Nivaran Hospital. He had served as president of Bathinda MC in 1998-2003. In the second death, Gagandeep (35), a boxer, also died of Covid-19.


Liquor baron Doda ve

Abohar: Liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda, who had on Saturday surrendered before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) in connection with the two fraud cases has tested Covid positive. Besides, 26 others have also tested positive in the district. The court ordered the accused should be kept in the sub-jail in Fazilka in judicial custody till September 28.
