Factionalism has come to the fore in the district unit of the AAP with two party leaders having been booked over a spat recently.

Former AAP district president and youth wing joint secretary Varinder Singh Khalsa of Pattrewala village got an FIR registered against former councillor and party ticket aspirant Arun Wadhwa along with his companions for assault and intimidation at Adarsh Nagar locality on May 30. Khalsa claimed he took out his “kirpan” in self-defence.

In a counter-FIR, Wadhwa alleged Khalsa threatened and attempted to kill him with a sharp weapon when he was returning from a village after campaigning for the party. The incidence was recorded in a CCTV camera installed near the scene.

A few months ago, the two leaders had allegedly threatened one another over the possession of party office at Fazilka. An audio clip of the incident had gone viral. Khalsa was then the district president but was later removed from the post.

After an inquiry by the SP (Headquarters), the city police booked Wadhwa, Sunny Khurana, Gurjit Khurana and others under Sections 341, 160, 506 and 34 of the IPC, while Khalsa and Sajan Bathla were booked under Sections 160, 148, 506, 511 and 34 of the IPC.
