The two-day Vidhan Sabha session beginning tomorrow is likely to be stormy with Opposition parties ready to take on the government on the issues of corruption, deteriorating law and order, drug menace and welfare scheme for the US deportees.

The session has been called to meet the constitutional requirement of convening the House before the end of six months. The state’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party claims the session has been convened to get certain legislations passed. An important Bill on amendments to the Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Act will also come up for discussion.

Leader of the Opposition Partap Bajwa is also expected to seek the tabling of the report on “black sheep” in the Punjab Police. The report was sought by the Vidhan Sabha Speaker during the last session.

Talking to The Tribune, Bajwa said they would raise the issue of corruption and letting off the big fish, including ministers and legislators, while acting against small officials only. “It hurts our Punjabi pride to see AAP leaders from Delhi coming here to oversee government works. We will raise this issue and ask the government why they have failed to generate resources from mining operations, while illegal mining is rampant,” he said.
