Fazilka, May 10

The Fazilka police on Sunday arrested two persons and impounded sand-laden tractor-trailers in Shahpura village of Arniwala sub-tehsil.

On getting a tip-off, the police laid a naka and intercepted two sand-laden tractor-trailers and nabbed two persons, identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Arniwala village and Mohinder Singh of Ojhanwali village.

SDO (Mining) Vijay Thakral said at present, no quarry had been allotted to any of the contractors in Fazilka district and the excavation of sand was not allowed as per the directions of the government.

The accused have been booked under Sections 379 and 188 of the IPC, 21 of the Mining Act and 51B of the Disaster Management Act.
