Two modern hostels will be constructed for students belonging to Backward Classes in the state, Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Baljit Kaur has announced.

The first instalment of Rs 1.12 crore had been approved for these hostels, which would soon be transferred to the accounts of Punjabi University, Patiala, enabling construction to commence immediately. These hostels — one for boys and one for girls — will have a capacity of 100 students each and will be built at a cost of Rs 6.99 crore.

Baljit Kaur said each hostel would cost Rs 3.49 crore.
