Irate over inordinate delay in starting development works in their areas, municipal councillors Yadwinder Singh Yadu (ward 4) and Gurpreet Singh Brar (ward 18) have started an indefinite fast at the municipal council office here.

Yadu, former senior vice-president of the municipal council, said approval was granted in 2021 for undertaking development works at Chak Ramnagar Basti and Buta Gill Dhani by spending around Rs 49 lakh, but the projects had not started so far due to political reasons.

“I will end the fast only after the tenders are allotted. Area residents seek a reply from me as I am their elected representative. However, officials and president of the municipal council are least bothered to give me any reply. Four months ago, I filed an RTI application seeking details about garbage disposal arrangements, but to no avail. This is a clear reflection of the municipal council’s functioning here.”
