The robbers had looted a petrol station on the Phagwara road two days ago and were also involved in snatching a bike. Initially, there was a face-off between robbers riding motorcycles and a police party near Taragarh. Seeing the police, they tried to run towards fields. When the police chased them, they opened fire on the cops. When the police retaliated fire, both robbers were hit on their legs. They were taken into custody and admitted to the hospital.

The robbers have been identified as Akash and Mandeep, both residents of Jalandhar. SP (Investigation) Sarabjit Singh Bahiya said the duo were involved in recent robberies at Nasrala village and Dasuya and at the Reliance petrol station on the Phagwara road.
