Two persons were washed away while taking a bath in the Gang Canal branch near Sadhuwali village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar highway. They were swept away as the rope they were using as a support snapped.

According to the police, the victims’ friend Ram Kumar Nayak, who was recording their video, had raised the alarm at which the residents came running to help them, but it was too late. Cops arranged for divers to look for the victims; however, they were unable to find them.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Arora (31) and Gaurav Arora (26), residents of Sriganganagar. Nayak said they had left work and went to take a dip in the canal to get relief from the extreme heat and humidity. Gaurav knew how to swim, while Pankaj had little experience. As Nayak did not know how to swim at all, he decided to make their video from the embankment.
