The 210 MW unit number 2 of the Lehra Mohabbat power plant was rectified this morning. The unit has been revived after over 33 months.

With the start of the unit ahead of the upcoming paddy season, the PSPCL would be better placed to meet the rising demand of power.

The unit had been non-operational since May 2022 following the collapse of ash handling ESP system (electrostatic precipitators). The problem was attributed to shortage of manpower and spares. A three-member panel had said in its report that the failure of the ESP system might be due to rising ash load and aging. Inexperienced local contractors and their staff failed to report the severity of the situation.

A senior PSPCL official said there was a shortage of technical staff for ensuing proper maintenance of various units. The total estimated loss was around 2.4 crore.

“In the 2024 summers, the power supply system faced an alarming situation with demand skyrocketing to 16,200 MW,” said All India Power Engineers Federation spokesperson VK Gupta.
