Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Cheema has claimed that the “Bill Liayo, Inam Pao” scheme has been a big success. In all, 3,592 persons have been given Rs 2,11,42,495 cash prizes for uploading their purchase bills on the “Mera Bill” app so far.

In a press communiqué issued here, he said the innovative scheme, launched in September 2023, aimed at promoting tax compliance and rewarding honest taxpayers. It encouraged consumers to upload 1,27,509 bills. He said prizes worth Rs 1,59,93,965 had already been distributed to 2,752 winners, while 247 winners (Rs 15,02,010 prize money) had been declared for November 2024.

Cheema said the initiative had not only incentivised consumers to participate actively in the tax system but has also played a crucial role in identifying and penalising those committing irregularities. “A fine of Rs 8,21,87,862 has been imposed against 749 bills found having discrepancies, showcasing the government’s commitment to ensuring tax compliance and fairness,” he said.
