Three sleeper coaches of Sarayu Jamuna Express train caught fire at Kartarpur railway station near here on Wednesday night.

The incident was reported around 10.30 pm when the train heading to Amritsar developed short-circuit at Kartarpur station.

Kartarpur SHO Pushp Bali said the train was halted at the station and a police team immediately reached there to help the passengers alight.

Four fire tenders brought the fire under control in an hour.

While the S2 coach was completely burnt, the S1 and S3 coaches were partially burnt.

Around 100 passengers occupied the three coaches. The Ferozepur Railway Division shut the traffic on the adjoining tracks.
